Kudos to Google for making sure that its newly launched talk service could be used with Gaim.
Google talk uses the standards compliant Jabber protocol. They will be the FIRST IM service to use the IETF messaging and presence standard. Thank you again, Google!
My Gaim settings are like: (they work at least here in IIIT)

Oh Miiii Godddddddd !!!
i just downloaded ... double clicked .. connected a pair of headphones with mic .. logged in with gmail account ... double clicked on buddy's name .. clicked on "call" .. and bang .. was talking to him ...
just a 6 step process
i guess its the same at that end too .... ;)
dont take it seriously dude ... just making a point to comment eveday ... and you always post something related to linux which rocks .. we all know why ... whats better than this :D
Yeah, buddy. Agreed that after starting from downloading, it was a six step process. But that began (most probably) with a newly installed XP (coz Zotob ate the last one) and after the honeymoon with Google talk, by the evening, you reinstalled XP once more -- oh these vulnerabilities.
Also agreed that your windows is not that bad for, say a shopkeeper, who cares no more about a comp than just being able to write some fancy text in Word and get a printout (and maybe email too). But he needs to be far from being networked, you see, or he'll need an antivirus along with a geek who knows how to "maintain" the windows.
Chill out buddy; I'm sure your boss Bill Gates would rather like to see you as a developer rather than just a "user". Example: What exactly would you do if you want that your "Google talk" logs in only when you unlock your screensaver (or logs out when you lock the screen and go away). How do you do it. The question is how?
Think about it, dude. It just ain't flexible enough. Too constrained for an engineer, you see. :-)
Again the same prob here in wlan. can't use google talk with gaim (on linux). Gives some error "Server does not use any supported authentication method". :(( Perhaps you could help the wlan users on this cause. ;;)
:))
The google talk itself says that we cannot talk in linux using gaim-jabber(port).see this link click here. You can just chat with other google-talk users using gaim.I used it in linux and its working fine.
